If it's just for a one time event, I wouldn't worry too much about keeping them pristine. Better worry about other things on your best day rather than the shoes which I think shouldn't deter your attention in any form or way. Oh and as for Meltonian, yes you can spray it on satin. I spray mine all the time. Meltonian is the best out there imo. Chanel's factories use it on their bags and shoes and so do many cobblers.
A lot of us in the Louboutin subforum use it on all our shoes as well - fabric, leather, suede, and exotics. All others, use at your own risk. I would avoid baby wipes at all costs I only use these to wipe the outsole after every other wear, never to clean the body.

I had a pair of satin shoes I wore a lot and the rain here ruined them, and destroyed the shiny look of the fabric. That's from getting caught in the rain a few times.. Think of standing on a wet lawn for hours..
Just be sure to thoroughly read the label and instructions to be sure they are suitable for the type of satin your shoes are made from. These sprays form a protective layer which prevents water from penetrating the satin and leaving a stain. As far as possible, we would recommend keeping your satin shoes dry. Doing this will most likely leave your shoes ruined by unsightly stains. Instead, as soon as you can take them off and dry thoroughly, first by using a cotton ball to soak off excess water then using a hairdryer or something similar to completely dry them.
Be sure not to use anything coloured to rub satin shoes dry as the dye can transfer! However, there is not much you can do in case of rain. No amount of waterproofing will protect them in the long run.
At Le Chateau ooh la la there is the following advice:. Use a Nylon Stocking to clean the surface. You can use the same procedure on all your stained satin clutches to remove dust and dirt. So simple and so great! Sounds good to me. So I used that. Day 2 — I sprayed the shoes 2 days in a row , letting them dry 24 hours in between. Today I sprayed on Kiwi Protect All as a final protectant.
They are now darker than the original color, but I love them. That might have been a factor in color change. I liked this experience.
I would feel awful if the color changed. Excellent advice — but I think the key, like you said, is that you were doing this with the Payless flats. But I will now add fabric ballet flats back to my shopping list since I now have a great way to protect them — thanks!!
