Nqt how long to complete

This means that their day-to-day job is likely to be similar to that of other, more experienced teachers. They should teach the same class regularly, and are required to do the same sort of planning, teaching and assessment as other teachers. How are NQTs supervised? Teaching is a big responsibility, so there are strict measures in place for monitoring, observing and supporting NQTs. Every NQT has an induction tutor: a member of staff within the school who provides day-to-day monitoring and support and coordinates their assessment.

During induction, NQTs are supervised in a variety of different ways: Observation: this should happen at regular intervals, and each observation should be followed up with a discussion between the observer and the NQT. Formal assessment: there must be three of these each year, usually at the end of each term. After the final assessment, the headteacher will make a recommendation as to whether the NQT has met the required standards. NQTs only get one shot at induction. If, at the end of the programme, the headteacher considers their performance unsatisfactory, the NQT will not be allowed to practise as a teacher in any maintained school, and will be dismissed from their current post within 10 days, unless they lodge an appeal.

What are the pros and cons? An NQT in a part-time position can still do induction. The post will need to last for a term or more to count towards the induction period.

The length of the induction will be longer. If you are absent for 30 or more school working days, your induction period will be extended by the aggregated number of days absent. You can request an extension of your induction to match the statutory maternity leave period, if you wish. Your request cannot be refused.

If an NQT chooses not to extend induction after taking maternity leave, performance is still assessed against the core standards. If a NQT's absences over the whole re-induction period comes to 30 days or more, the induction is extended automatically. It must be extended by the aggregated total of days absent. If part-time, only absences falling on days when the NQT is contracted to work count.

You can also complete your NQT year in an international school if it is a qualifying Cobis school that has successfully completed a British Schools Overseas inspection by theDfE. The statutory guidance on induction for NQTs is essential reading. Can I still apply for jobs as an NQT?

What if it has been years since doing my training year? This should be good news for people who want more flexibility and prefer part-time work.

Can I do my NQT year in any school?
